Start From Possibility, Not The Problem

Simple Advice: Build From Your Heart.

I was working with one of my coaching clients the other day - we were working on her next career move, thinking through whether she wanted to start building her own company rather than get back onto the corporate hamster wheel.

She asked if we should do some structured brainstorming around “problems and solutions” to try to figure out what types of company in what types of industry she should consider starting.

I said no.

To be clear - I am well aware that some of the great companies in the world have been born from this kind of ideation: a founder sees a major problem or gap and goes about filling it. That is obviously a completely legitimate route and a place where a lot, maybe most, founders start.

However, for me - and most of the people I work with - our origin stories are a little different. Most of us are nontraditional business people/founders/entrepreneurs who weren’t brought up with business-speak and didn’t get MBAs.

Instead, we lead with passion and build what we’re truly excited about.

One of my modules in my new Quantum Clarity mini-course is called "permission to desire” and  it talks about why articulating your desires is a professional (and personal) skill, not self-indulgence.

Zooming out, this kind of thinking applies to all things in life: If you start from a problem, chances are you’ll continue to find problems.

Another thing I talk about in my mini-course is the basic tenet of quantum physics which says  that all possibilities exist in the quantum field.

So how about instead of focusing  on the problem, you start from passion and possibility?
